Band Uses Platform for Environmental Awareness

By Michaela O'Larry

British band, Coldplay, decides to halt their global tour until further notice until they figure out how to be carbon neutral.

Carbon neutrality is where you want to only release a certain amount of carbon dioxide but try to replenish it by growing tree or other positive measures.

This is the first for a band with their caliber to use their platform to take notice of the carbon footprint that is gained when musicians tour. This a proud moment for environmental that has taken in account of the how much energy is used.

According to greentouring.net, the biggest part of the emissions is actually the public travelling. Since Coldplay will be having a global tour, the usage of airplanes and private vehicles will lead to higher emissions rather than trains and shared transportation.

With the younger generation becoming more aware to the environment more and more everyday, they are looking for people with high platforms to bring in the needed awareness.

Even though going for carbon neutrality can be an effort for many individuals want to stray away from because it can be hard, the effort is what is needed for people to do something.

Doing activities like recycling, carpooling, or etc. is the effort many people are more willing to do when their favorite celebrities push the policies.

When the government does not their part by listening to their constituents , it’s the public’s duty to figure out the choices that is needed to create a better world. This is why the usage of platforms are so important.

Frontman, Chris Martin shared, “the band has had a number of major tours and wants to find a way to make the next tour more about giving than taking.”

With recently passing the thankful season, it is still good to see celebrities understand they have the power to make a change.
